The History

The Spanish have long had a saying, “Aceite de oliva, todo mal quita”- Olive oil makes the pain go away”.

Homer called it “Liquid Gold” and the Cretans considered it sacred. And now savvy consumers recognize the health benefits of a diet rich in olive oil, and at the same time, are embracing a new generation of bath & body products that use olive oil and olive extracts as their primary ingredients.

Could it be, that a diet rich in olives and olive oil is the answer to a lifestyle free of serious heart disease? All the research certainly points that way.

Excite your taste buds

For thousands of years the olive has enjoyed a prominent place in our lives. Called the “fruit of the gods”, because of its sometime delicate and often robust taste with hints of almond, apple, vanilla and pepper. Whatever your affinity for flavor, there is an olive oil that will excite even the most discriminating pallet.

Mediterranean oils carry the natural flavors of the olives, and are considered by some to be the true gourmet oils. But today olive cultivation has been exported beyond the Mediterranean borders, finding fertile lands in Mexico, Peru, Chile, Argentina, South Africa and Australia. In fact, the Franciscans planted the first olive trees in Northern California some 150 years ago.

The mythology

In Greek mythology, the leaves of the olive tree symbolized peace. Poseidon created the horse for mankind and Athena, the goddess of wisdom, reason, purity and crafts gave us the olive. The horse would serve in war and the olive would serve in peace.

The olive tree represents all things majestic and mighty, standing the test of time against the hardships of nature and producing delicate fruit that civilizations have dined on for over 6000 years.

With its delicate skin, abundant flavor and woody pit, the olive’s “unique character and history” is truly the star of any show.
